What information we collect

We receive, collect and store any information you enter on our website or provide us in any other way.

We may use software tools to measure and collect session information, including:

Page response times

length of visits to certain pages

page interaction information

methods used to browse away from the page

We also collect personally identifiable information (including business names, job titles, personal names, email, communications); more specifically, for the following groups of people we will hold and process your name, work and/or personal phone number and address (as provided by you – we do not look for data you have not provided), and email addresses.

Education visits and visitors to the National Fruit Show

We process the data you provide on the registration form

On the days of the National Fruit Show, we may your mobile phone number if you want to receive text messages at the show with public service announcements.  Any such data collected will only be used for this purpose, it will not be shared with anyone, and it will be deleted on the day after the Show finishes.

Why we collect this information

We only contact people in relation to their activities with the National Fruit Show and Marden Fruit Show Society events (like the AGM or farm walk) unless otherwise stated

We collect such non-personal and personal Information for the following purposes:

To provide and operate our services

To provide our users with ongoing customer advice and assistance

To be able to contact our visitors and users with general or personalised service-related notices and promotional messages

To create aggregated statistical data and other aggregated and/or inferred non-personal Information, which we or our business partners may use to provide and improve our respective services

To comply with any applicable laws and regulations.

How we collect information

When visiting our website

When you send us your personal data by completing the “contact us” form on this website, we collect that information and it will be used to process your queries.

When contacting us by other means

If you choose to contact us by telephone, letter, or email, we will only collect as much personal data as we need for logging and responding to your enquiry.

We will not initiate contact with you via social media, but if you choose to contact us by such media you do so under the conditions of your chosen social medium’s privacy policy.  We do not use data from social media for any other purposes than replying to communications you initiate.

When we are exhibiting at educational events other than the National Fruit Show

When we attend events aimed at schools we ask teachers if they are interested in our programme to leave their name, school address and email.  This is so we can contact you with further information as requested.

If you receive marketing communications from us it is through the soft-opt-in exemption where we are sending details of similar products or services to existing/prospective customers. We always offer a simple method for you to opt out of further marketing.

How we store, use, share and disclose our site visitors' personal information

Our company web site is hosted by Ether Creative - they provide us with the online platform that allows us to promote our services to you. Your data may be stored through Ether Creative’s data storage, databases and the general Ether Creative applications. They store your data on secure servers behind a firewall.

We may be required to share or collect further data:

Where we are required to pass on personal data without consent, for example for the prevention or detection of crime, or to produce anonymised statistical data

To check that the information we hold is accurate and up to date

Where we have agreements with other organisations for sharing information, for example, data processors working on our behalf.  

We will hold your data for as long as you continue to show interest or participate in the National Fruit Show and/or Marden Fruit Show Society.

Visitors to the National Fruit Show

The National Fruit Show registration process may be sponsored by a major company in return for their help in maintaining free visitor entry.

We would like to share your data with our sponsor. They may wish to contact you and market their products via email or regular postal services.  Data protection legislation allows for this as being in the sponsor’s “legitimate interests”.  

At the time of registering, you will be given the chance to agree to this sharing of your data.  If you do not agree, we will not share your data. If an insufficient number of people agree, it may impact how easy it is to find sponsors in subsequent years, and we may need to charge an entry fee for visitors to the National Fruit Show.  

How we communicate with our site visitors

We may contact you for the following purposes:

Matters relating to your trade stand booking

To troubleshoot problems with your account

To resolve a dispute

To collect fees or monies owed

To ask your opinions through surveys or questionnaires

To send updates about our charity and the National Fruit Show

If we email you

We maintain a separate distribution list for recipients of our email newsletter, which is sent out weekly between July and October ie in the run up to the show.  We operate a Double Opt-in consent process to subscribe to this service and we always offer a simple method for you to opt out of further communications.

If you decide to follow us on Twitter, you do so under the conditions of Twitter’s privacy policy – we do not take data from Twitter for any other purposes.  

Access to your personal information

Marden Fruit Show Society will be as open as it can be in terms of giving people access to their personal information. You can find out if we hold any personal information about you by making a ‘subject access request’ under the General Data Protection Regulations. If we do hold information about you, we will:

Give you a description of the data we hold

Explain why we are holding it

Tell you who it may be disclosed to

Say how long we plan to retain the data, or explain the criteria used to calculate that time period

The legal conditions for processing the data (this will often be consent, if that is the case you will be able to remove that consent at any time)
