National Fruit Show
The National Fruit Show is organised by the Marden Fruit Show Society CIO, registered charity number 1168291.
How long have you been exhibiting at National Fruit Show? For many companies the Show is the must-do Industry event of the year, and over the last 85 years we have built up many long-term relationships as exhibitors and friends.
But you will have to go a very long way to beat the track record of family firm J R Breach, which has been exhibiting at every Show for the last half a century!
The first J R Breach stand at the 1969 Marden Fruit Show, with John Breach on the left in discussion with some visitors to the Show.
It was towards the end of 1968 that John Breach began his “J R Breach” business, and he had his first trade stand at the then Marden Fruit Show in 1969. The stand featured fruit trees from “Pepinieres du Valois” (now Dalival); as well as frost protection “candles”, and frost alarm equipment.
J R Breach has continued to exhibit every year, with 2018 marking the 50th consecutive Show. John commented: “Although there can be quite a lot of work involved in having a trade stand, I believe that the National Fruit Show is the one event that all companies connected with the British top fruit industry should exhibit at, in order to meet customers ‘old’ and ‘new’. With my son Peter actively involved in the business, we hope to be exhibiting at many more National Fruit Shows in the future.”
The J R Breach stand this year will again feature fruit trees from Dalival; stakes from Desindo Wood Supply, based in Ghent, Belgium; and, new apple and pear varieties, including NuvarTM Club varieties: NC1 Cheerfull GoldTM; NC2 StardanceTM; and NC3 CabaretTM. The best exhibit of any of these three varieties in the Show competition classes will win a special J R Breach prize of a £100 shopping voucher – please see the Show Competition Schedule for details.
To celebrate the staging of the 50th consecutive J R Breach trade stand at the Show, up to 500 visitors to Stand K2 (who must be aged 18 or over) will have a chance to win a bottle of Biddenden sparkling wine in a free-to-enter draw – terms and conditions apply.
So is John Breach is the longest-standing Show exhibitor? We certainly think so, unless, of course, you know different?
